Christmas around the World

We are learning about Christmas in the past and Christmas traditions from around the world. This is some of what we have learned so far:

In Russia Christmas is celebrated on the 7th of January. Santa is known as Father Frost. People eat fish.

In Japan people say ‘Meri Kurisumasu’, which means ‘Merry Christmas’. They eat rice and chocolate.

In Italy Christmas is celebrated on the 6th of January. Children get a present from Befana.

In Poland Santa is called Mikolaj. People eat special food, such as oplatek. There is lots of snow.

In Mexico Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December. Children perform ‘Posadas’ (the nativity).
